CellMat Laboratory has a wide expertise on the production, characterization, foaming mechanisms, properties, modeling, structure-property relationships and applications of cellular polymers and the ability of working on any of these fields.
OUR BASIS
The objectives of CellMat Laboratory are:

- To develop new knowledge on the production and structure-property relationships of cellular materials of interest for several markets sectors: Automotive, aeronautic, renewable energies, building and construction, packaging, biotechnology, etc.
- To carry out scientific and technical research of international excellence in the cellular materials field.
- Training of young scientist specialized in materials science and technology aiming them to be ready for both academia and industry.
RESEARCH TOPICS
NANOCELLULAR POLYMERS
Nanoporous polymeric materials are porous materials with pore sizes in the nanometer range (that is, below 500 nm), processed as bulk or film materials, and from a wide set of polymers.
MULTIFUNCTIONAL CELLULAR MATERIALS
Many strategic sector in nowadays society demand materials with advanced properties. The strategies to produce such type of advanced materials are centered in using complex multiphasic formulations and novel production processes.
CELLULAR NANOCOMPOSITES
Cellular nanocomposites are a novel class of cellular materials that include at least one phase (typically inorganic) with size in the nanometric range.
POLYURETHANE FOAMS
Polyurethane foams are by far the most popular cellular materials as they covers more than the half of the total foams market.
BIOPLASTIC CELLULAR MATERIALS
Bioplastics and biodegradable polymers are obtained from various natural resources. Interest in environmentally safe and friendly biodegradable cellular materials is expanding considering the increasing prices of plastic resins made from complex hydrocarbons (petroleum, gas, etc) and the environmental concerns associated to waste reduction.
